Thanksgiving in Seattle

Getting There

My mom and I decided to be adventurous and take an Amtrak train from NY Penn Station to Seattle. We ended up taking the Lake Shore Limited (coach seats) to Chicago and the Empire Builder to Seattle. The views were gorgeous, even if the accommodations were a little cramped. If you have a roomette, food is included. The steak is highly recommended.

The Aquarium

Yes, I know I'm a coastal engineer and green things get in the way, but there's something about aquariums that I can't resist. The Seattle aquarium was a pleasant surprise, well laid out, but a little small.

Chihuly Garden and Glass

I was speechless as I walked through this space. It was beyond anything I imagined. The little brother had recommended it, and it was worth both the time and money.

Space Needle

No trip to Seattle would be complete without a trip to the Space Needle, and my inner engineer was giddy as we wandered through the exhibit and around the observation deck.

Seattle Art Museum

It seems like every city has an art museum, but they're all different and it's always fun to see the layout and their unique pieces. I even found a "turkey" (ok, maybe it's an ostrich) in honor of Thanksgiving.

Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style

Walking through the exhibit, you get a feel for the work and artistry that went into each design, functional but beautiful pieces of art as well.

Traveling with Family

Seattle had some great marine art along their river walk, so of course, I made my mom stand next to them. If I'm with my mom, then finding the local Catholic church is always a requirement and the light hitting this one made the cathedral particularly beautiful.
